What’s So Great About Westfield Bondi Junction?

Westfield Bondi Junction is located in the heart of Bondi Junction and very close to the railway station. It is the largest shopping centre in Australia and attracts millions of shoppers every year. (Visit our homepage also.)

History
In 1929 Australia’s first suburban shopping centre, Fox Hall Village, was created in Sydney. Over the years more shopping centres were built in Australia including Sydney City Plaza in 1971 and Carrara Markets in 1979. In 1985 the Sydney Tower Shopping Centre, located above the markets at Sydney Fish Market, was opened. This was the first shopping centre in Australia with multiple levels.

In the 1980’s Australian society became more affluent and bigger, new types of shopping centres were built to service the community’s new needs. In 1988 Westfield Sydney was opened becoming the first local franchise of Westfield Corporation Ltd from New York. This was followed by other Westfield centres such as Bondi Junction (1991), located near the site of the original Junction Hotel where DB Cooper is believed to have boarded a flight, and Strathfield (1993).
