What Makes Maroubra Beach Such a Popular Eastern Suburbs Beach?
Maroubra Beach is a very popular surf and swimming beach with many other activities such as beach volleyball and other fun activities. It’s located between Coogee Beach and Malabar. There is a gorgeous coastal walk from Bondi Beach all the way past Tamarama, Bronte, Clovelly, Coogee and through to Maroubra. Or enjoy the shorter walk from Coogee to Maroubra (a 5km/2hr easy walk).
What makes Maroubra Beach so popular?
It’s a really nice beach! That’s what.
The reason for the popularity is simple. When you think about a beach, you are likely to imagine white sand, blue water, and sunshine. But most beaches don’t always offer those things and in such abundance as Maroubra. Indeed, few beaches offer even close to ideal conditions for swimming or sunbathing. Most are too noisy, too busy, or just not nice enough to deserve the name “gorgeous beach.”
So what makes Maroubra Beach so special?
It’s a public beach so it’s patrolled and has flags every day of the week and throughout the entire year.
Because Maroubra Beach is a public beach you can access it without having to pay any money. Yes, you heard that right. No fees.
It’s a gorgeous, long beach with lots of different areas to spread out and enjoy. For swimmers, it has life guards and yellow flags for safe, supervised swimming.
For surfers, the south end is very popular and has great surf for a range of skills.
The South end of Maroubra also boasts beach volleyball courts and a weekend social competition run by locals that can be joined by anyone.
Noise regulations are less strict at public beaches than they are at private beaches. So you can go down and play your games, take the kids and have fun without worrying about noise complaints!
Maroubra Beach is a very long beach so there is always space for the family and friends to find a spot and enjoy a day out at the beach. The cafes and bars are at the north end of the beach and it’s a short walk to get there.
Parking is available all along the beach and is free. There are also some all day spots available.
The park at the south end of the beach also boasts playing fields and playgrounds. However, the main playground at the main section of the beach is a popular spot for anyone with young children with its pirate ship and fenced and shaded space.
