A Houston Locksmith Discovered Gold Coins in Safe He Was Asked to Unlock
After an owner of a safe died, his belongings were being tidied up and distributed by the executor of the estate. Luckily, instead of just throwing out the old safe, they took it to a Houston locksmith who opened it up and found a pipe full of gold coins. The honest locksmith contacted the police and the estate made a claim on the contents of the safe and it was given to the executor to include in the estate’s assets. Police didn’t give the amount but did say it was a “substantial” amount.
Locksmith Opens Old Safes and Thinks It’s Empty Until…
A locksmith posted on Imgur when an old steel vault was found and he was contacted to open it. The locksmith, “Unkapier”, was intrigued to open it and find out what was inside. It was a Mosler Safe and lock and these are notoriously secure. However, without much trouble, the locksmith opened the outer door only to discover that there was another, just as secure, inner door. This door also needed expertise to be opened.
After opening both of the old safes doors and locks, Unkapier found he was looking at an empty space. It seemed to have nothing in it except a few small, wooden doors. Thinking there wouldn’t be much in the wooden doors, Unkampier didn’t have much hope of finding any buried treasure.
In the end, he was lucky enough to find a few hundred dollars in US notes, mostly $2 notes, and coins. Although the $2 notes are out of circulation, they’re not worth much more than their original value as there are still a lot around.

Couple Discovers $51k in Their New Home’s Safe
A Phoenix couple, renovating their “fixer upper”, discovered a safe hidden inside their walls. After cracking it open and using the “safe code” they found at the back of the medicine cabinet, they discovered the “hidden” treasure. Even though they hadn’t known what the code was for, they had saved it, just in case…
Lucky for them, it opened the safe easily and they discovered US$51,080 and a bottle of bourbon dated 1960.
The really exciting part was finding a book and map that seemed to be giving clues to another treasure (possibly in a safe). More info here.
